The State That I Am In

Black Friday

Went to Carrollton/Dallas today. Never again shall I go to Austin to shop – the Dallas mall is infinitely better! I got some fake bling today that far surpasses and exceeds the quality of any fake bling I’ve ever purchased. I got Chanel No. 5, the sweet scent of my childhood. I made purchases at Anthropologie. Consumer-wise, it was a good day for me. I guess I could have done all of that in Austin too, but not all under one roof.

Getting into the mall, however, was another story. I’ve never shopped on Black Friday, but I anticipated that parking would be a hassle. I was right. I ended up in a parking duel with minivan. If they had taken that space, it would have been all over. I had my blinker on first. Luckily, the geriatric darling pulling out of the space did so in a way that gave me the early advantage in pulling in. It was just my day.

Actually, the day started out to be so not my day. I stopped at the gas station by my house to get gas prior to heading out, but when I tried to leave, my car wouldn’t start. The fine folks at AAA jumped it for me, then tried to sell me a replacement battery for $140. Now, I’ve never bought a car battery before and cars are not my thing, but I was fairly certain that $140 was too much, so I told the guy I was just going to go to the auto place up the highway. Good move on my part, because I ended up only paying $60. My momma didn’t raise no fool, jeeez. Anyway, for those readers keeping score, I had (1) a flat tire and (2) a dead battery in less than twenty-four hours. Clearly, my vehicle karma, much like my basketball karma is way off. Hopefully the battery issue restored the equilibrium and I won’t have anymore mishaps. I’ve been kind of a big biatch this year, though.

It’s Friday night, but the city is dead, so I’m going to bed early so that I can get up early and go to school to work. I’m also starting two-a-day workouts tomorrow in order to offset the gluttony of the holiday season. My metabolism can’t take it. I’m also walking to and from school now. It’s a good way to start the day when the weather is cool.
